Cabbage Detox Diet: A Simple Weight Loss Plan

It’s interesting how so many people swear by the cabbage diet yet no individual or group has claimed to be the one to come up with the idea. Well, the idea is in fact so simple that it’s strange how no one thought of it before.

Even before reading about it, you already get the notion that this detoxification method involves cabbage, cabbage, and more cabbage! However, you’re in luck, if you’re planning on considering the cabbage detox diet, because other types of food are incorporated into the diet to break the monotony.

Cabbage is an herbaceous plant whose only edible part is its leafy head. Even the darker green outer leaves are discarded before they’re sold in markets. Why, then was it chosen as a diet vegetable?

Nutrients in cabbage

A cup of shredded and boiled cabbage will give you approximately 91.7% of Vitamin K daily value (DV); 50% Vitamin C, 15% dietary fiber, and about 5-10% each of the DV of manganese, Vitamin B6, Folate, Omega-3 fatty acids, plus trace amounts of other vitamins and minerals.

Pound for pound, it was always believed to be not as nutritious as your other veggies such as broccoli and carrots, but apparently, the cabbage is great for detoxification. The phytonutrients found in cabbage, a cruciferous vegetable, trigger an intricate process inside our cells in which elements play a role in stimulating the enzymes for detoxification.

The action of these phytonutrients makes it possible for our cells to render free radicals powerless, thus promoting the elimination of harmful toxins from the body. In short, cabbage has been found to be more effective in lowering our risk of cancer more effectively than any other fruits or vegetables!

The Cabbage Detox Diet Schedule

This type of detox diet lasts for 7 days, and the star of the regimen is cabbage soup. One should not consume alcohol at any time during the course of the cabbage detox diet.

The soup is made from a head of white cabbage, 2 green peppers, 6 white onions, a bunch of celery, a pack of onion soup mix, 1-2 cubes of soup stock, 2 cans of chopped tomatoes, and carrots and mushrooms, if desired.

You are allowed to consume as much soup as you want, although hardly anyone gorges on cabbage soup because of its blandness, anyway.

Day 1: You are allowed to eat as much fruit as you want (except bananas) with your soup. Aside from water, you can have cranberry juice and unsweetened tea.
Day 2: No fruits for the whole day. This time, you get to eat all the vegetables you want with your cabbage soup. Again, there are a few exceptions – corn, peas, and dry beans not allowed. You also get to reward yourself with a baked potato (you can even butter it) at dinner.
Day 3: This is a combination of the first two days. You can eat all the fruits, vegetables, and soup that you want, but you don’t get a baked potato.
Day 4: To curb your craving for sweets, you are allowed to drink skimmed milk plus up to 8 bananas with your cabbage soup.
Day 5: To eliminate the uric acid from your body, you may have up to 6 fresh tomatoes and 10-20 ounces of beef with at least one serving of cabbage soup. You can also substitute skinless chicken or broiled fish for the beef.
Day 6: Have soup at least once, and eat as much veggies and beef as you want, but no baked potato.
Day 7: Have your soup at least once, plus vegetables, fruit juices, and brown rice.

You won’t be starved for sure with the cabbage detox diet, and if cabbage is said to be a great detox agent, then it’s worth giving it a try.
