Detox Drinks For A Healthier You
Detoxification is not just a fad. Because of the many benefits it provides and its relative affordability, it has survived a lot of other fad diets claiming to give the quickest weight loss results.
One of the most popular elements of detox diets are detox drinks. They are staples in every detox diet because they can be made in a matter of minutes and can be consumed as is, without the addition of any sweeteners or other flavorings.
These detox drinks are touted to eliminate the wastes and toxic substances that have accumulated in our bodies over many years of eating unhealthful foods and breathing polluted air. Have you ever had that feeling of heaviness when you are constipated? Generally, the same feeling is applicable to when you are badly in need of a detoxification.
This means that your systems are already clogged with all sorts of harmful substances that need to be released. These so-called “toxins” in our bodies cause general weakness and make us more prone to infection as our resistance is weakened.
People who are constantly eating junk foods and those low in fiber and high in fat usually become more easily fatigued, have weight problems, and are more prone to debilitating diseases rather than those who do not lead sedentary lives and eat healthful foods. To properly detoxify, you have to give your body a break from the harmful substances that aren’t really needed by your body.
Even if you opt for a detox diet that includes solids, detox drinks should complement your plan because they help flush out the free radicals and the harmful toxins. After several days, you’ll notice a welcome change in your complexion plus a feeling of renewed energy.
To rouse your gastric juices and kickstart your systems, take a glass of freshly squeezed lemon juice in warm water as soon as you wake up in the morning. Normally, we are required to take at least 8 glasses of water a day, but during detoxification, you are required to take more water, and even when you are done with the detox.
To add variety, you can choose from any of the most popular detox drinks we have today: peach juice, carrot-vegetable juice, carrot-apple juice, or vegetable juice combo.
The peach juice is one of the easiest detox drinks to prepare – all you need are 2-3 peaches blended with some herbs such as coriander leaves or fresh basil. The carrot-vegetable juice is prepared in much the same way – that is, a carrot combined with herbs, and mixed with a kale leaf, some dandelion leaves, and fresh mint to give your detox drinks a refreshing flavor.
The carrot-apple juice is made with 2-3 green apples and a carrot, plus fresh basil leaves. On the other hand, the vegetable juice combo is a bit more complicated. It requires two leaves of Swiss chard, half a beetroot, 3 carrots, 3 sprigs of watercress, and a celery stalk.
After washing the vegetables thoroughly, cut them up in small pieces and place in a blender. For detox drinks, it’s best not to use sugar or dairy products. Simply choose fruits that are ripe enough so they can provide the natural sweetness to make the drink more palatable.
