Detox Program: Be A New Person In 3 Weeks
With the modern types of food we eat come the risks of ingesting all sorts of harmful substances in food such as preservatives, artificial flavors, stabilizers, food coloring, and others. Normally, these toxins are segregated by our bodies and purged via the excretory system; however, there will come a time when our systems break down and various symptoms manifest themselves.
These symptoms may range from headaches, allergies, sore throat, colds and fatigue to more severe conditions such as hypertension and heart ailments. This is when it becomes necessary to detoxify our bodies and get rid of the harmful elements before we lay victim to debilitating diseases that become difficult to treat.
Remember that with a detox program, you make use of only fruits and vegetables and soups made from broth – no meat, foods rich in fat, and heavy carbohydrates. A detox program can last fro a few days to several weeks, depending on your preference or what your body can handle. During the program, you are encouraged to start your day with a glass of warm, natural fruit juice to stimulate your gastric juices.
About 15 minutes to half an hour before breakfast, have a few slices of fresh fruit followed by whole grains such as millet, buckwheat, amaranth, or brown rice. You should not include your usual processed grains and refined cereals in a detox program. For your mid-day snack, prepare a light fresh green salad.
For main courses, you can have a combination of your preferred steamed vegetables plus a serving of sliced fruits for dessert. At all times, avoid using sugar as sweeteners. It will also do you good if you forego your daily cup of coffee as you must keep off caffeine. Practice this regimen for 7 days.
On Days 8-14, drink only fresh fruit juices and raw fruits and vegetables for main courses. This serves to speed up the detoxification process and to ease your digestive system of any stress it may go through.
On the last week, you may start with vegetable and fruit smoothies. Again, this relieves stresses on digestion and renews your cells. You can practice other therapies such as meditation and yoga to help you cope with the detox program and its attendant effects on your body.
Even after you’re done with your detox program, you can pursue the non-toxic diet for the subsequent months. After a while, you will start to feel the effects of having renewed energy, a clearer mind, and clearer skin. Eat only organic foods if possible and make sure that the water you drink is distilled or at least properly filtered.
It’s important to include fresh fruits and vegetables in your daily diet, plus legumes and nuts. If you need to include dairy products, then go for the low-fat variety. Fresh fish is also acceptable but shellfish is not recommended, as these may contain toxins that would not be good for your body.
Above all, keep off junk food after your detox program. After spending some time consuming only healthful organic foods, you will eventually lose your cravings for these and perhaps even canned food that is rich in sodium and preservatives.
Thanks for the tips! I am on my second day of no sugar, coffee, dairy, meat, or processed grains. I feel a little headache-y and listless and I slept more than normal. But it helps me to know that the foods I crave aren’t at all necessary for me to live and be healthy, that rather my body has been tricked into thinking it needs coffee and donuts to be energized. I’ve suffered a little bit from adult acne and my mother told me that a diet that included raw carrots, lots of oranges, and lettuce really cleared up her skin. I’m hoping to stick with it and feel better inside and out.
